Scaling/Polishing-the veterinary and a supporting technician handle the aspect of slowly scraping-off the tarter and removing the plaque from the teeth. This is followed by polishing the teeth. Usually, polishing is a part of the packaged service being offered and if it is not, you can insist upon it since it doesn't harm the tooth's structure. After polishing, the attending vet applies a mix of solutions that help to seal the small chips among the teeth and prevent the accumulation of tartar in the near future.



Extraction-teeth that are loose and on the verge of falling, need to be removed. Similarly, teeth that are beginning to grow sideways and show signs of wedging into nearby gums need immediate removal. If the extraction process is for the older, stabilized tooth, a nerve-blocking agent might be recommended.
